‘My mother is my hero. She sacrificed herself so we could study and fulfill our dreams, always advising us to uphold wholesome values, love and family,’ said Saldana.
| Zoe Saldana Refuses To Become a Cheap Sex Symbol | September 7th, 2010 |
Zoe Saldana wants to stay on top of her game by avoiding becoming a “cheap sex symbol”. The actress says she likes to look nice, but refuses to buy designer brands and wear raunchy outfits that make her look slutty because she believes fashion is an “art form”. More of what Zoe Saldana has to say on the other side.
“For many people, including a lot of famous actresses, fashion is all about brand names, logos, status symbols, but for me it is an art form. Half the job of someone in show business is creating an attractive image.”
| Zoe Saldana: ‘Fashion is an art form’ | September 6th, 2010 |
Avatar star Zoe Saldana does not buy into fashion brands like other actresses because for her it is an ‘art form’.
The 32-year-old has a passion for clothes but prefers to steer clear of designer brands.
She told the UK’s Hello! magazine: ‘For many people, including a lot of famous actresses, fashion is all about brand names, logos, status symbols.
‘But for me it is an art form.’
Saldana also thinks that a big part of working in the showbusiness industry is about looking good.
The actress added: ‘Half the job of someone in showbusiness is creating an attractive image.
‘And for me, that doesn’t mean becoming a cheap sex symbol.’
| Zoe Saldana: I Can’t Stand Sunshine | July 12th, 2010 |
Zoe Saldana hates sunshine and would rather sit in a dark room than go to the beach.
The Hollywood star detests sunny days and always shuts the curtains when she is in a hotel, even if she has a good view. Zoe claims she feels more comfortable without natural light because it suits her “melancholy” mood.
“I’m not a sunny person. I’m not one of those people who have the windows open all the time,” she explained in an interview for the August edition of GQ magazine. “Literally the first thing I do when I get to any hotel room – even if I’m in Paris and there’s a view of the Champs-Élysées outside – is draw the curtains. I like that Blade Runner feel. That melancholia.”
The 32-year-old spent some of her teenage years living in the Dominican Republic, after her mother moved the family there when her father was killed in a traffic accident. Even though Zoe was spoilt with a warm climate and beautiful beaches, she rarely donned a bikini to sunbathe or swim. Instead, she preferred to read in the shade.
“When I lived in the Caribbean as a teenager, I would always be dressed in black, with the Jackie O glasses, reading a book under the biggest umbrella I could find, with a glass of red wine by my side – even on the hottest day of summer,” she laughed. “People were like, ‘Come out, Zoe, the sun’s wonderful,’ and I’d be like, ‘Nope don’t like it.’”

| Saldana: My fiance isn’t my type | July 12th, 2010 |
Zoe Saldana has confessed her fiance isn’t really the type of guy she is naturally attracted to.
The 32-year-old Avatar star has been dating 34-year-old entrepreneur Keith Britton for ten years, since they met at acting class while living in New York, and they recently announced their engagement.
Zoe told GQ magazine: “He was a model, and now he’s a finance guy. It’s funny, I never had a thing for these Abercrombie and Fitch boys – never.
“They were just too, y’know… big necks and everything. But then here’s this all-American guy: hunter, beer drinker, all that bulls**t. And in ten years we haven’t been able to get rid of each other.”
The Star Trek actress grew up in Queens until she was 10, before her family moved to the Dominican Republic.
She revealed: “I brought home a lot of frogs. It was only because, oh, I like the way he played the guitar, or oh, I really liked the way he walked. This one boy, he just had a swagger. It was so sexy.
“I love men’s hands, I feel as though hands tell a lot about you and your history, and there’s something very abrasively fragile about a man’s hands.
“Then there were those times when it was like, ‘Don’t open your mouth, don’t explain, just come here and f*****g…’
“The only thing I can’t tolerate in a human being, especially in a man, is ignorance. Somebody who talks in labels or talks just to hear themselves speak. To me, judgement day is when you open your mouth and say something that lets me know what kind of personality you have.”
