| Zoe Saldana: I Can’t Stand Sunshine | July 12th, 2010 |
Zoe Saldana hates sunshine and would rather sit in a dark room than go to the beach.
The Hollywood star detests sunny days and always shuts the curtains when she is in a hotel, even if she has a good view. Zoe claims she feels more comfortable without natural light because it suits her “melancholy” mood.
“I’m not a sunny person. I’m not one of those people who have the windows open all the time,” she explained in an interview for the August edition of GQ magazine. “Literally the first thing I do when I get to any hotel room – even if I’m in Paris and there’s a view of the Champs-Élysées outside – is draw the curtains. I like that Blade Runner feel. That melancholia.”
The 32-year-old spent some of her teenage years living in the Dominican Republic, after her mother moved the family there when her father was killed in a traffic accident. Even though Zoe was spoilt with a warm climate and beautiful beaches, she rarely donned a bikini to sunbathe or swim. Instead, she preferred to read in the shade.
“When I lived in the Caribbean as a teenager, I would always be dressed in black, with the Jackie O glasses, reading a book under the biggest umbrella I could find, with a glass of red wine by my side – even on the hottest day of summer,” she laughed. “People were like, ‘Come out, Zoe, the sun’s wonderful,’ and I’d be like, ‘Nope don’t like it.’”
